“IT IS THE INSURED’S OBLIGATION TO MITIGATE A POTENTIAL LOSS.”
What does this mean? It means that it is the insured’s responsibility to lessen the severity of
the damage caused by an insured peril if at all possible.
For example, in the case of sewer backup in the home, the insured should have the sewer cleaned
up as quickly as possible to avoid further damage to the home and its contents.
Please note that this pertains to any type of loss, and the above is one example only.
